The Problem With Tapering (248.5-256.9km)

The clocks go forward at the weekend which means that the club’s Thursday run will move back to our off road route so this week was a chance to bid farewell to winter Thursday route.

I’m being overly dramatic, the route won’t be missed greatly and fellow club runners seemed to think the same. The numbers turning out were down considerably from previous weeks.

The reason was probably due to the fact that we are in the final few weeks of marathon training for a lot of people. The long mileages are done and time is needed to get over the niggles from training and conserve some energy. Basically people are tapering.

That’s all fine, but for people like me with no race for the foreseeable future I just want to go out and run. I know, I’m being selfish and I wish those marathon runners all the best but I can’t wait till everyone else puts away their training plans and set pace runs and can relax like me.
